Protect Vulnerable Communities from Cuts in Important Federal Grant Programs!
President Obama has released the Administration’s budget blueprint for 2012, which outlines his plan to rebuild the U.S. economy. Unfortunately, some proposed cuts will hit tremendously important programs for the most vulnerable populations in our country.
One particularly harmful cut has been proposed to the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program budget, slicing over $300 million (7.5 percent) from the program. CDBG funds enable local governments to deliver countless community needs, including affordable housing development, infrastructure improvements, law enforcement, and other community projects, particularly in communities with concentrations of low-income and minority residents.
Without this funding support, these vulnerable communities will be further relegated to the bottom of the economic recovery.
Tell Congress that we need to search for ways to fund vital federal programs, to ensure that all American citizens have a fair chance to recover.
